14 DAY TRIAL // In an interesting turn of events, Facebook has announced that its users will now be able to play games while on the go. A new service called Instant Games is now available for those who use the Messenger and Facebook News Feed on both mobile and web.
According to Facebook, the new Instant Games HTML5 cross-platform gaming experience is meant to allow users to easily discover, share and play games without having to install new apps.
If you want to try out the new games available in Facebook News Feed and Messenger, you should know that you can access them via the new game controller icon that's been integrated just below the box where people type a message.
Depending on the game you play, you will get access to leaderboards and group thread conversations that will allow you to challenge and compete against basically anyone on Messenger.
As mentioned earlier, Instant Games can be accessed via Facebook News Feed. A dedicated Instant Games bookmark is available on Facebook where people can view and instantly replay all their favorite titles.
For the time being, Instant Games is available in 30 countries and it should be compatible with all devices running iOS 8 or later, as well as Android 5.0 or newer. Developers who want to include their games in Instant Games can register on the dedicated website.
Facebook also notes that Instant Games opens up “a unique opportunity for game developers to lower the friction for people to discover and instantly enjoy playing games without having to install new apps.”
Thanks to the advantages of using just one build that will run in web view, devs can easily release their titles in Instant Games across multiple platforms.
It's also worth mentioning that Facebook News Feed posts will also include the “Instant Play” call-to-action “to help drive distribution and discovery of new games.”
