You can now get a code to use when you use a new computer

Facebook has rolled out some changes today to the way users are informed about their privacy options, while also implementing a new security feature to hike up protection of its users.

Dubbed "login approvals,” this new security feature is similar to login alerts, but it brings up an extra security step. Once this feature is enabled, you’ll be asked to enter a security code every time you want to access Facebook from a new device, be it a computer, smartphone, or even browser.

Get your codes

There are several ways you can get these login codes delivered to you. The default way is to get them via text message, but you’ll have to make sure there’s a phone number attached to your account first.

If you don’t want to share your phone number with Facebook and you’d rather these codes be delivered to you in a different way, that’s possible too. Facebook lists two more possibilities. The first is to get 10 login codes that you can print or save somewhere which can be used whenever needed.

A second option is to use Code Generator if you have the Facebook app or a third-party app. If you want to do this, you’ll have to go to your Security Settings, click on the Code Generator section, pick “set up another way to get security codes,” and follow the instructions in there before tapping on “Confirm.”

Save your computer

After all this is done, and you’ve managed to turn on login approvals, you’ll have to make sure the computer or browser you’re using is saved in Facebook, so it recognizes it from then on out so you won’t have to enter a code each time you log in. It would, of course, be advisable that you don’t save browsers that are on public computers, such as the school library.

There are some things that will interfere with this feature, however. For instance, turning on private browsing is one instance, while setting up your browser to clear your history every time it closes is another.
