14 DAY TRIAL // Facebook has just announced an update to the news feed settings page that will allow users to select the sources of their favorite stories, be they Facebook users or Facebook pages.
This new feature can be accessed through the "News Feed Preferences" option in the "Settings" section of your Facebook iOS app, and will enable anyone to customize their timeline feed to better fit their own needs.
Users can now prioritize friends in their Facebook news feed
After making this changes, all the stories posted by the friends and pages selected by each user will be shown at the top of the news feed, above the rest of the other news.
Once the user reads and goes through their prioritized updates, they will then enter their regular Facebook news feed.
The redesigned news feed preferences screen also includes tools to find new pages based on the ones a person is currently following, something very useful if, let's say, you're a concept artist and you'd like to connect and follow the pages of other concept artists.
There's also a section where users can easily unfollow users and pages without going to their profiles, and another section that lets them reconnect with people they unfollowed in the past.
Only available for iOS for now
This new feature is available starting today on the iOS app, and will be slowly rolled out in the coming weeks to the Android app and the Web-based version.
In the past month, Facebook has been making serious changes to the way it displays content, the biggest one being when they decided to take into account the time users spend reading stories on the timeline, prioritizing the type of updates users paused from scrolling the news feed.
Putting these two features together will surely give users more control over the chaotic mess Facebook has been naming "news feed," something all users have been asking for a while.
