VR, Terragraph, ARIES, and React Native updates

After a crowded first 24 hours, day two is on its way at Facebook's F8 Developer Conference, and the biggest announcements have already been made, with the rest of the afternoon being filled with smaller sessions dedicated to each service in part.

Two of the day's first reveals were the ARIES and Terragraph projects, both aimed at providing better and faster Internet connectivity for underserved areas.

Facebook says Terragraph is aimed at crowded areas and relies on street-level antennas to provide faster Internet. On the other hand, ARIES will only focus on covering larger land surfaces, where population density is lower, and where connectivity is more important than speed, relying on a series of special antennas to do so.

Facebook then announced a new AI-powered image classification feature that organizes photos based on their content and doesn't necessarily need user-inputted tags, much like the way Google Photos works.

The social network then moved on to promoting its VR (Virtual Reality) capabilities once again, showcasing how VR environments can be integrated with social networks.

Big updates coming to Facebook's React Native framework

We weren't impressed with this one, but we were with Facebook's next announcement. Continuing to focus on its React Native framework, the company's top devs announced that after supporting iOS in its first stage, and then Android devices, new support has been added this year as well.

If developers want to build cross-platform mobile apps using React.js, then they can also do it for the Windows and Tizen platforms. To top off the night, Facebook will also launch a special React Native SDK, ideal for simplifying the process of integrating Facebook's top features (login, analytics, sharing, Graph API) inside React Native apps.

Below are some of the promotional videos Facebook put out today. For a day one recap, you can read our summary from yesterday.
