That Facebook TV app that we were talking about a couple of weeks ago is actually going to make its way to your set-top box in the very near future.

According to the announcement, the Facebook video app for TV will be available for Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Samsung Smart TV, with more platforms to be added to the list.

"Our video app for TV is a new way to enjoy Facebook videos on a bigger screen. Last year we rolled out the ability for you to stream videos from Facebook to your TV, and today's announcement expands this capability. With the app, you can watch videos shared by friends or Pages you follow, top live videos from around the world, and recommended videos based on your interests," the announcement reads.

The TV app will also make it possible for users to check out those videos that have been saved inside Facebook for later viewing. Furthermore, it will hold a history of your viewed videos so you can revisit them at any time, including those you've shared or uploaded.

So much more potential

While this is all nice and all, it's not exactly what people were expecting. Sure, being able to watch Facebook videos on the big screen has some advantages, but with this move, it was believed that Facebook would bring in some kind of additional original content.

While this doesn't mean that it won't happen in the future, it's still somewhat disappointing.

Facebook will, on the other hand, be able to tap into yet another stream of ad money, which will reflect positively in the company's financial records for the following trimesters.

The social network also announced a new update for its mobile app which may annoy a lot of people because, along with those videos that play automatically, it will also come sound. This could result in quite a few annoying situations unless users have their phones on mute or if the feature hasn't been disabled beforehand.
