Facebook has started rolling out a new section to its mobile app, one that’s called "Discover People" and basically helps users find new friends, much like the "People You May Know" section.

The Discover People section will be made available on Facebook’s mobile apps and it encourages users to introduce themselves by updating their profile, according to Tech Crunch. The section allows users to scroll through a list of upcoming events that they might wish to attend and browse through lists of people in their city.

The section will also show suggestions of people who work for the same employer. The feature could be used for friending new people who share the same interest or work in the same industry. It could also be used for dating, given its design.

The feature is rolling out to Android and iOS users

The Discover People section on iOS is found in the navigation section under Friends, Events, Groups, Nearby Places and other options. Upon opening the section, users get access to a list of people living in the same city or those working for the same company, provided that they actually mentioned that in their description.

The section won’t show profiles of people that users already friended on Facebook and the company says that only public information will be displayed. Discover People section was tested in New Zealand and Australia last year, but Facebook decided to make it available to more users now. The feature has already started rolling out for iOS and Android users, and it will reach all users in the coming days.

The section doesn’t come with anything particularly new, but it does offer Facebook users a way to connect with more people. Recently, Facebook improved account security by adding login approvals for users to enter a security code every time they access Facebook from a new device.
