Facebook has just announced that it introduced a new way for Messenger users to share their location with friends and family. The feature has started rolling out globally both on iOS and Android-running smartphones.

Facebook says it has been working on the new feature for quite a while now and that users have stated that it’s quite helpful to have a new tool that allows them to coordinate with friends and show their exact location when they’re on their way to an appointment.

The location can be shared with a group of friends on Messenger or just one person in a chat. To share their Live Location in a message on iOS, users simply need to tap the Location icon or the More icon.

Live Location can be shared for 60 minutes

The app will then display a map of the user’s current location and the option to tap a blue bar to share the Live Location. The message receiver will be able to track the location on the map for the next 60 minutes and get an estimation of the sender’s arrival time. Users can also tap on the Stop Sharing icon to stop their location from being shared.

Facebook also added a small clock at the lower right corner of the map so that users would see how much longer they’re sharing their location for. The same works for Android, and users are able to share a static point on a map in order to pinpoint the location of a coffee shop, cinema or the meeting place for friends.

Live Location sharing on Messenger comes just a few days after Facebook introduced reactions and mentions inside the app for Android and iOS. Users are now able to react using seven emojis to various messages that they receive inside the app. They can also mention their friends in messages or get notifications when a friend mentions them.
