Kickstarter project “Eye” proposes a solution for undecided users who don’t want to pick between iOS or Android when buying a new phone. The iPhone case gives extra functionality to the smartphone, transforming it completely.

First of all, Eye will be compatible with a number of iPhones. The smaller model fits Apple iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone 7, while the larger variant will work with the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone 7 Plus. The company says that the next iPhone will be supported a month after its launch.

Secondly, Eye features a 5-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution, thus providing an enhancement compared to LCD screens on iPhones. In addition, Eye’s resolution is higher than on the iPhone 6, 6s and 7. Moreover, the case adds 256GB of internal storage with a microSD card and connects to the iPhone via Lighting port, resulting in transfer speeds of up to 130MB.

The iPhone case also features its own chipset, upper mid-ranger Helio P20 with octa-core CPU and Mali-T880 MP2 900MHz GPU. It also has an always on display feature, support for wireless charging, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, NFC, dual SIM slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack, to compensate for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The only major component that the Eye case doesn’t have is a camera, which means that only the iPhone sensors will be in use.

Eye also has a 2,800mAh battery, which doesn’t drain when the iPhone is in use. Basically, Eye is a mid-range smartphone that you can slap on your iPhone and enjoy a taste of Nougat for $129 starting September, while the retail price could reach $229.

One disadvantage would be that Eye makes the iPhone significantly thicker, looking like two smartphones glued together, but hopefully, the added functionality would compensate for a heavier phone.

The project already met its funding goal, but if it reaches the next milestones, developers could add a 10,000mAh battery with power bank capabilities, IP67 certification rating, double boot with Ubuntu or triple boot with Ubuntu, and Windows 10 Mobile if it reaches $15 million.
