GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton informs us about the availability of the ExTiX 16.4 operating system for 64-bit PCs, a release that brings numerous updated components and technologies from both the Debian and Ubuntu world.

Based on the Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 "Jessie," Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch," and Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating systems, ExTiX 16.4 Build 160731 uses the latest KDE 4.15 Development Platform together with KDE Frameworks 5.18.0 and Linux kernel 4.6.4.

"My special kernel 4.6.0-9-exton corresponding kernel.org’s kernel 4.6.4. You can download 'my' kernel if you want to use it in another Ubuntu/Debian system. Extract ubuntu-kernel-64bit-4.6.0-9-exton.7z with the command '7za x ubuntu-kernel-64bit-4.6.0-9-exton.7z' (without quotes)," says Arne Exton.

ExTiX is dubbed The Ultimate Linux System

Arne Exton dubbed his ExTiX GNU/Linux distribution The Ultimate Linux System simply because he managed to implement almost all the latest open-source applications and technologies that have been published at the moment of the release, and also because the OS comes with a mix of core components from Ubuntu and Debian.

Of course, if you're not a fan of the KDE desktop environment, or you prefer to use the original versions of the Debian GNU/Linux and Ubuntu operating systems, then ExTiX is not for you. ExTiX 16.4 Build 160731 is available for download right now via our website as a single, dual-arch Live ISO image.

ExTiX is a computer OS designed only for 64-bit (amd64) hardware architectures, and the ISO image distributed for free is a hybrid one, which means that you can deploy it on either USB flash drives or CD discs. ExTiX can be used as is, directly from the bootable medium, or installed locally on your computer's disk drive.
