Arne Exton has had the great pleasure of informing Softpedia about the immediate availability for download of the LXQt and KDE editions of his ExTiX 15.4 GNU/Linux distribution.

ExTiX 15.4 LXQt and KDE are based on the upcoming Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system and are powered by a specially crafted kernel 4.2.0-16-exton package, which, in its turn, is based on the latest and most advanced Linux 4.2.3 kernel.

The fact of the matter is that ExTiX is a GNU/Linux computer operating system based on both Ubuntu and Debian distributions, which means that the latest version also contains elements from the Debian GNU/Linux 8.1 (Jessie) OS.

"I have made two new versions of ExTiX – The Ultimate Linux System. I call them ExTiX 15.4 LXQt Live DVD respectively ExTiX 15.4 KDE Live DVD," said Arne Exton in an email to Softpedia. "My special kernel 4.2.0-16-exton corresponding Kernel.org’s kernel 4.2.3."

Unity has been replaced with KDE and LXQt

The developer has managed to remove the Unity user interface from the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system and replace it with the KDE Software Compilation 4.15 desktop environment on the KDE Live DVD of ExTiX 15.4, and with the next-gen LXQt 0.9.0 desktop environment on the LXQt edition of the distribution.

According to Mr. Exton, ExTiX 15.4 should be considered a stable operating system, despite being based on Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), which is currently in development and in a final freeze state. ExTiX is also among the first distributions to be based on the upcoming Ubuntu 15.10 OS, due for release on October 22, 2015.

You can download the ExTiX 15.4 LXQt Live DVD and ExTiX 15.4 KDE Live DVD ISO images right now from Softpedia. Please note that both distributions contain software packages optimized for 64-bit (amd64) hardware architectures and they won't work on 32-bit machines.
