Apple’s iPhone 7 is selling like hot cakes in Taiwan, according to a new report, as both the 4.7-inch and the 5.5-inch models posted record numbers last month.

TaipeiTimes is reporting via industry sources that the 4.7-inch iPhone was the best-selling smartphone in the country, and the exploding Galaxy Note 7 is one of the main reasons. The local media explains that customers were interested in the iPhone 7 not necessarily because of the hardware upgrades that Apple made available on this model, but because of the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco.

Samsung pulled the Note 7 due to defective batteries and most customers were looking for high-end alternatives, with the iPhone 7 said to be among the models that benefitted the most from this transition.

It appears that Apple played its card very well in Taiwan, as this is the first time when the country is included in the first wave of iPhone releases. The iPhone 7 went on sale locally on September 16.

4.7-inch iPhone is number one

According to the same report, the 128 GB iPhone 7 topped sales last month, while the iPhone 7 Plus was the runner-up. The Samsung Galaxy J7 was third, ahead of ZenFone 3 and the 32GB iPhone 7. Previously, the Note 7 was the best-selling smartphone in Taiwan in August.

These figures led to impressive revenue for Apple, whose share reached 61.6 percent, ahead of Samsung, Asus, HTC, and Sony. As far as sales are concerned, Apple is dominating with 29 percent, once again better than Samsung and all the other rivals. A total of 684,000 smartphones were sold in Taiwan last month, up 20,000 units from the previous month.

Apple has every reason to be pleased about these figures, especially because most Note 7 owners pick the iPhone 7 as their top alternative. Oddly enough, Apple and industry analysts expected the majority of Note 7 customers to go for the iPhone 7 Plus, and not the 4.7-inch model, but according to these figures, the smaller version remains super appealing for buyers.

The iPhone 7 Plus comes with some exclusive features and hardware upgrades over the 4.7-inch model, including a dual-camera system and 3GB RAM.
