Today, October 16, 2016, GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton informs Softpedia about the release and immediate availability of a new, updated version of his lightweight ExLight Live DVD distribution.

Based on the recently released Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) and Debian GNU/Linux 8.6 "Jessie" operating systems, ExLight Live DVD Build 161016 uses Arne Exton's special kernel 4.8.0-21-exton, which is based on Linux kernel 4.8 (also used in Ubuntu 16.10), replacing the 4.6.0-10-exlight kernel used in previous releases of ExLight.

Another interesting change implemented in the new ExLight Live DVD release is the ability to save files and settings during the live session, as the ISO image is shipped with persistence technology. Also, you'll be able to write the ISO to USB flash drives or use it directly from RAM thanks to the new "Copy to RAM" boot functionality.

"ExLight’s ISO file is now an ISO-hybrid, which means that it can very easily be transferred (copied) to a USB pen drive. You can then even run ExLight from the USB stick and save all your system changes on the stick, i.e. you will enjoy persistence," says Arne Exton in today's release announcement.

Built around the beautiful Enlightenment 0.20 desktop

The beautiful Enlightenment 0.20.99.0 desktop environment is shipping with ExLight Live DVD Build 161016, which is a welcome addition from the 0.19.12 version used in previous releases. To make your Enlightenment experience even more fun, a bunch of animated wallpapers are available in the distribution.

Nvidia’s proprietary graphics driver 370.28 is installed by default for those who own Nvidia graphics cards, and you'll find popular open-source applications like LibreOffice, SMPlayer, Google Chrome, GIMP, PCManFM, Synaptic Package Manager, Gparted, and Wicd. You can study the list of included programs and download the ExLight Live DVD Build 161016 ISO right now via our website.
