The Evolution open-source email and calendar client used by default in numerous GNU/Linux distributions and distributed as part of the GNOME desktop environment has been updated recently to version 3.17.90, which is the first Beta towards version 3.18.

Looking at the internal changelog, which we've attached at the end of the article, Evolution 3.18 Beta (3.17.90) comes with a great number of bugfixes. Among the most important ones, we can mention the addition of a stock icon to the mail-next-unread action, the ability to delete all instances of a recurring event when deleting a single one, and GOA books support for the Google authentication method.

The size requests of the "Security Information" dialog has been corrected, a crash that occurred when attempting to reply to an email has been fixed, multiple typos in the translatable string were addressed, and a crash in the spell check dialog that occurred when clicking the replace buttons that have no suggestions selected has been fixed.

Additionally, it is now possible to suppress reminders for completed tasks, users are now being prompted when the To/Cc field contains too many recipients, the AtkComponent component has been implemented in GalA11yETableColumnHeader, and email counts are now being displayed in the subscribe folders dialog.

The EHTMLEditor component gets the most attention

In addition to the changes mentioned above, the first Beta of Evolution 3.18 now displays the full folder path and account name in the error messages, uses the same font in the email vertical view, fixes a crash in the gal_a11y_e_cell_popup_new() function, and it will no longer reset entered text in the list view on column leave.

However, it would appear that the EHTMLEditor component received the most attention in this new milestone towards Evolution 3.18, especially for EHTMLEditorDOMUtils, EHTMLEditorSelection, and EHTMLEditorView. A couple of memory leaks have been plugged as well, and many other small issues resolved.

Last but not least, the Portuguese, Greek, Norwegian, German, Lithuanian, Catalan, and Spanish language translations have been updated. You can download the Evolution 3.18 Beta sources right now from Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which contains unresolved issues and it's not ready for production use.
