Essential announced earlier on Twitter that it has finally started rolling out the Android 8.1 Oreo software update for Essential Phones and users can install it as we speak.

Essential Phone owners have not yet received Google's Android 8.0 Oreo operating system, until today, when Andy Rubin's company surprised users on Twitter with the announcement of the full release of the Android 8.1 Oreo software update on the Essential Phone.

Essential invited all Essential Phone owners to check their Android smartphones for the update now, as Android 8.1 Oreo not only brings all the cool new features of the Android Oreo series, but also new Settings menu layouts and redesigned navigation buttons.

Essential Phone users are also getting an automatic Dark Mode for Quick Settings, dynamic Clock and Calendar icons, Hi-Fi Bluetooth codecs like aptX HD and LDAC, a semi-transparent Quick Settings menu, and battery level indicator for connected Bluetooth devices.

Essential Phone users jump into the Android Oreo bandwagon

With the major Android Oreo update, Essential Phone users received the all-new Power menu that Google recently added to Chrome OS on Chromebooks with touchscreen, music playback controls via the notification panel, and Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode for videos, including Netflix.

Moreover, Essential Phone owners can now use fingerprint scanner gestures, temporarily remove individual notifications, smartly select text from anywhere, minimize background activity of apps they don't use, and access their favorite websites faster with Autofill's new capabilities.

Android Oreo also features notification dots for apps so you can quickly view updates, which can be easily cleared just by swiping them away, and support for Android Instant Apps by allowing you to teleport apps directly from your web browser into the device without installing anything.

These and much more other improvements can be yours right now if you update your Essential Phone to the latest Android 8.1 Oreo software version. The new Android version is available via the OTA (Over-the-Air) update system, so simply access the Settings to install it on your smartphone. Have fun!
