The developers of the Enlightenment open-source desktop environment used in numerous GNU/Linux distributions have announced the release and immediate availability of a new maintenance version of the Enlightenment DR 0.19 series.

According to the release notes, Enlightenment 0.19.12 is a major release that fixes over 40 issues reported by users since the previous maintenance build of the desktop environment, Enlightenment 0.19.11, which is quite something, considering the fact that the previous versions had only a few improvements, with most of them being minor.

However, the big news we want to share with you today is that the Enlightenment 0.19.12 release drops support for the next-generation Wayland display server. Unfortunately, the Enlightenment developers have omitted to mention why they decided to remove any form of support for Wayland from this release, and if it will return in upcoming releases of the software.

"This bugfix release improves on the 0.19.11 release and resolves a number of issues. Please note that due to a serious issue related to X11 window handling, this release is not compatible with versions of EFL <= 1.15.1 and >= 1.12.0, inclusive. See T2745 for details. Also, this release no longer contains any form of support for Wayland," reads the announcement.

Enlightenment 0.19.12 is not compatible with certain EFL versions

In the same announcement, users of the Enlightenment desktop environment are informed that the 0.19.12 release is not compatible with versions of the EFL component prior to or equal to 1.15.1, as well as bigger than or equal to 1.12.0. So when upgrading to Enlightenment 0.19.12, make sure that you have EFL 1.15.2 or higher, up until version 1.12.0.

Below we've attached the entire changelog of the Enlightenment 0.19.12 release for those of you who are curious enough to know what exactly has been changed. In the meantime, it is recommended that you update your Enlightenment 0.19 installation through the official channels of your GNU/Linux distribution, but you can also download the Enlightenment 0.19.12 sources right now from Softpedia.
