A new development release is now available

Elive, a Linux distribution based on Debian that uses Enlightenment as the default desktop environment, is now at version 2.6.8 and it's ready for download and testing.

It feels like Elive is forever trapped in a Beta state, but that's just an impression. Even if most of the releases for Elive use the Beta version, it's still a more stable version than many other Linux distros out there. Still, the developers of this lovely and unique Linux OS still have some changes to make, and they need more feedback from the users. They made the change to a newer version of Debian a while ago, and these transitions are usually pretty difficult.

It's also worth pointing out that Elive is one of the few operating systems that ship with the Enlightenment desktop environment. It's very different from everything else and users will need some time to adjust to it. What's even more interesting is that Elive doesn't even use the vanilla version of Enlightenment, and they've customized it quite a bit. The end result is something special that you don't get to see anywhere else.

Latest Elive has lots of fixes

"We need your feedbacks and reports, each version can include new things not working as expected, if is the case, please contact us on our live chat or report it to from the website! Beta versions are not so optimized as the Stable ones due to debug flags and developer profiles, you can encounter errors and incomplete things," reads the announcement.

According to the changelog, a problem with huge fonts with Nvidia cards has been fixed, the touchpad default configurations have been fixed, the Internet configurator widget is now static in the desktop, Zsh shell is now used by default, the internal elive tools have been fixed, the autodetected configurations have been improved, and numerous smaller changes have been made.

More details about this distribution can be found in the official announcement. You can download Elive 2.6.8 Beta right now from Softpedia. It's a little bit more stable than the previous version, but it's still under development.
