Chinese company Elephone isn't well known outside the Mainland, but its products offer a great price / performance ratio.

Unfortunately, Elephone is not to be completely trusted when it announces new products because the final specs might be changed by the time they are launched on the market.

The same goes for its top-of-the-line series called Vowney, which is supposed to include Elephone's flagship smartphones.

Apparently, the company announced plans to launch a high-end version that will run either Android 5.0 Lollipop or Windows 10 Mobile.

It's called Elephone Vowney and it's set to hit shelves on October 10 for just $300, but it might be delayed since this has already happened a few times in the last couple of months.

The Vowney is supposed to pack a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

Elephone initially stated that the cheaper version of the smartphone that will pack 3GB of RAM will be powered by a quad-core Intel processor. This variant would either run Windows 10 Mobile or Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Specs are a bit confusing right now

The second version would pack 4GB of RAM and an octa-core MediaTek MT6795 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. However, this more expensive version of the Vowney would only run Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Not long ago, Elephone announced that both versions of the Vowney would be equipped with octa-core MediaTek MT6795 processors.

Other highlights of the Elephone Vowney include 20.7-megapixel Sony camera with IMX230 sensor, autofocus, LED flash and 4K video recording, 64GB of internal memory that can be further expanded via microSD card slot.

Also, Elephone confirmed the smartphone would be powered by a 3,800 mAh battery, but then backtracked and said the Vowney would pack a 4,200 mAh battery inside.

There will be an 8-megapixel camera in the front for selfies and video calls. Elephone Vowney is supposed to offer both 4G LTE support and dual-SIM support.
