14 DAY TRIAL // Just a few minutes ago, the guys over at elementary were extremely proud to announce the release and immediate availability of the elementary OS 0.4 "Loki" GNU/Linux operating system.
elementary OS 0.4 "Loki" has been in development for the past three or four months, during which time it has received two Beta milestones. Still, we have to admit that we were expecting to see the Release Candidate (RC) build as well, but it looks like the devs decided it was time for the popular operating system to hit the stable channels.
And there you have it, elementary OS 0.4 "Loki" in all of its beauty is now ready to take over your personal computers, and the best part is that it's based on Canonical's Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, which means that Loki is also an LTS (Long Term Support) OS, which will receive security and software updates until 2021.
"Loki is the newest version of elementary OS, a design-oriented and open source Linux-based operating system for desktops and laptops. It succeeds Freya which was released in April of 2015," says Cody Garver in today's announcement. "The previous release of elementary OS was downloaded about 1.2 million times."

Prominent features of elementary OS 0.4 "Loki" include revamped system indicators, especially for audio, power, Bluetooth, date & time, and network, a brand new Notification Center, multiple Applications Menu improvements, a redesigned System Settings panel, internationalization enhancements, better privacy, extra security, and a brand new Screenshot app.
Additionally, there are also various improvements to the default elementary OS apps, the addition of GNOME's Epiphany app as the default web browser, the latest version of the Geary email client, case-insensitive tab completion support for the Terminal app, and last but not least, AppCenter, a new application store to find and install your favorite apps.
