The moment you've all been waiting for it here, and you can download the elementary OS 0.4 "Loki" Beta release if you want to get an early taste of what's coming to one of the most anticipated Linux kernel-based operating systems of 2016 for desktop PCs.
As mentioned in our previous elementary OS 0.4 "Loki" coverage, the upcoming GNU/Linux distribution will be based on Canonical's Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system. This means it inherits most of its core components and technologies, including the Linux 4.4 LTS kernel, GTK+ 3.18, and Vala 0.32.
Therefore, users will get the native overlay scrollbars feature for all the pre-installed apps, an improved notification system, as well as pretty much the same elementary OS desktop experience that they've been used to for many years, but there are some hidden gems that you'll have to discover yourselves.
Also, to keep users safe, elementary OS 0.4 Beta ships without the tools needed to install .deb files or add a PPA (Personal Package Archive) repository. The elementary OS developer does not recommend using this first Beta build of elementary OS 0.4 "Loki" as a daily driver for your personal computer, and neither do we. So if you download and install the operating system right now, please consider that it's Beta quality software with known, unresolved issues or missing features.
