elementary OS "Isis" is the next iteration of the famous operating system that swooped everyone off their feet with some amazing looks and a new desktop concept. The first details about the new version have been revealed and it is going to be one of the most beautiful Linux distributions in the world.

The developers of elementary have always managed to make things differently on the operating system they designed. Sure enough, they are still at the beginning and elementary OS is still young. The previous version carried the 0.2 build number, so you can imagine that there is much work to be done.

The looks and features of elementary OS "Isis" have been mostly kept under wraps and many users have been wondering what they will do next. Well, one of the first things that you will hear in the video is that elementary OS uses EFI to boot on a MacBook Air. It would be interesting to see how it would work on an older system with just the plain old BIOS.

The overall look of the main desktop doesn't seem to have changed significantly, but looks can be deceiving. The top bar is now completely transparent, but with the help of some powerful heuristics, the bar adjusts itself to match the color of the background.

Also, the Switchboard (the settings menu) has been improved a great deal with new icons and the performance is spot on. There is no stuttering and everything seems to be very smooth. The toggle switches have also been updated to better integrate with the overall theme.

Another quite interesting addition is the header bar. The elementary OS developers have combined the title bar, the buttons, and the rest in just one bar that holds everything in place. A similar solution can be found in GNOME, but the elementary solution looks better.

elementary OS "Isis" is expected with great interest by the fans of the distribution and by the entire Linux community. The elementary developers always come up with some great ideas and almost everything that they promoted until now was awesome.

The next version of elementary OS will also integrate by default Midori as the default browser, Geary as the default email client, its own launcher, file manager, dock, and few other important packages.

There is no precise time frame for the launch of elementary OS "Isis," but it will most likely be here during the summer of 2014.
