Michael P. Starkweather has just announced that his Elementary Tweaks software is now available for the elementary OS 0.3 Freya Linux operating system, which was unveiled at the end of last week.

Being written in Vala and distributed under a GPLv3 license, the Elementary Tweaks application has been created from the ground up to allow elementary OS 0.3 users to tweak various hidden settings of the distribution.

"This project is exclusively for elementary OS 0.3 Freya, it will not work under versions previous to that," says Michael P. Starkweather in the Launchpad page of the Elementary Tweaks software.

After installation (see below for details), the Elementary Tweaks project will appear as a Switchboard plugin allowing users to tweak system settings of the elementary OS 0.3 Freya operating system.

Here's how to install Elementary Tweaks in elementary OS 0.3

elementary OS 0.3 users can quickly install the Elementary Tweaks application in their distributions by using a dedicated PPA (Personal Package Archives) software repository, which they need to add manually.

Therefore, open the Applications Menu, go to the second screen and launch the Terminal app. In the terminal window, copy and paste the following lines of code, one by one, hitting the Enter key after each one.

code
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mpstark/elementary-tweaks-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install elementary-tweaks
Each of the above commands will generate some code in the console, so make sure that you wait for the first command to finish before running the next one. In the end, you will be able to access Elementary Tweaks from the Switchboard.

Please note that the Elementary Tweaks software has been designed especially for the recently released elementary 0.3 Freya operating system and won't work with previous versions of the distribution, such as elementary OS 0.2 Luna.
