Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera is DEA’s Number 1 most wanted man and the world’s most powerful and dangerous drug trafficker. He escaped from prison on July 11, 2015 and has been in hiding ever since, with the only sign from him coming as a tweet directed at US Presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Shortly after announcing his run in the 2016 Presidential elections, Trump came under fire for saying that Mexico was “sending” to the US their worst and that immigrants were rapists, thieves and drug dealers. When word of El Chapo’s escape got out, Trump had a major “I told you so!” moment, also on Twitter.
Trump says El Chapo’s escape proves his point
The idea that Trump is pushing is that the Mexican border needs more than enforcing: it needs a wall to keep the illegals out, a wall that he thinks he can get Mexico to build.
Though Trump has been dumped by several business partners after making the comments about “rapist” Mexicans, he is not without supporters.
After news of El Chapo’s escape broke, he took to Twitter to boast that he had been warning Americans all along of this happening. He even demanded an apology from the media for mocking him for saying what turned out to be right: the Mexicans that Mexico was “sending over” were of the worst kind.
He also boasted of kicking El Chapo’s butt if he ever became President, which he hopes will happen next year. You can see some of his tweets on the topic included below.
Obviously, Trump wasn’t even thinking that they might generate a response precisely from the man he was using as his example of being right.
El Chapo tweets, Trump calls the feds
The first tweet below, profanities included, comes from El Chapo’s official Twitter feed. Yes, these days, not even cartel bosses can get by without a strong social media presence.
Word online has it that this wasn’t Guzman doing the tweeting, but his son Ivan, who ran the account since the day it went live. Whoever it is that’s doing the tweeting, they don’t appreciate Trump’s comments on Mexicans and particularly on El Chapo, the feared kingpin of the Sinaloa cartel.
The tweet “invites” Trump to continue wagging his chin and boosting himself up in the media, so that he can be taught a lesson. The message also includes a homophobic slur, obvious for those who know Spanish.
Because he’s not the kind to not take a threat seriously, especially from such a source, Trump has alerted the FBI, demanding an investigation, TMZ reports.
“I'm fighting for much more than myself. I'm fighting for the future of our country which is being overrun by criminals,” he says. “You can't be intimidated. It's too important.”
