With the release of the Linux 4.16 kernel series out the door, it's time to take a look at the contributions made by Collabora's developers during this development cycle.

Linux kernel 4.16 was released over the weekend none other than Linus Torvalds, and it's the most advanced kernel branch for Linux-based operating systems. It comes with numerous updated drivers for an extra layer of performance improvements, but also to support newer hardware, as well as various other goodies.

Collabora's devs are usually known for their generous contributions to the Linux kernel, yet, this time, they managed to add a total of 33 patches, which were submitted by a total of eight developers. At the same time, they also reviewed by tag 34 patches, signed-off by tag no less than 74 patches, and stamped tested by tag 4 patches.

"This time round Collabora contributed 33 patches to the 4.16 release of the Linux Kernel, that is a bit lower than usual, probably because our developers decided to enjoy some time off for the end of year holidays instead sending patches upstream," said Gustavo Padovan. "Our contributions were made by 8 different developers."

Here are Collabora's contributions to Linux kernel 4.16

Among some noteworthy contributions by Collabora to the Linux 4.16 kernel cycle, we can mention display support for Nokia N950, Nokia N9, and Motorola Droid 4 devices, as well as USB 3.0 and External Connector Class (extcon) support for Rockchip RK3399 powered devices, such as the Samsung Chromebook Plus.

They also added support for the internal switch of GE's Bx50v3 devices and support for the D3DFMT_L8 format on the Acer Windows Mixed Reality Headset. Moreover, they fixed the open-source Intel i915 OpenGL graphics driver to reject modifiers for pipe C on Gemini Lake CPUs, as well as a long-standing DRM API bug.

Other than that, Collabora's developers managed to add various OMAP related improvements and replace the old PCI pool API with the new DMA pool API in several drivers. The full list of contributions made by Collabora's developers to the Linux 4.16 kernel can be found in this blog article.
