eMachines announced the introduction of new, slim and compact desktop PCs, the EL1200 series. The main feature of the machines is that they come in a small form factor while not going into the nettops category. Still, the new eMachines PCs are as small as the company could make them, as they have only one-third the weight of a traditional PC.

Also, the company says that the EL1200 series is 40 percent smaller and 55 percent lighter than the previous small tower PC made by eMachines. Considering this, they could prove a perfect fit for any house or office, since they could be placed almost anywhere. The company announced the availability of two such compact desktops from the new EL1200 series.

The first model from the line-up is EL1200-05w, a machine powered up by an Athlon 2650e processor with a core clocked at 1.5GHz. The CPU works on an nForce motherboard which features GeForce 6150SE integrated graphics and comes with 1GB of DDR2 memory. The new compact PC features a 160GB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive as well as an 18x DVD writer for optical storage. EL1200-05w also comes with a 14-in-1 card reader and is configured with Windows XP Home SP3 pre-installed. The price for this machine has been set at just $298.

The second non-nettop PC in the series is EL1210-01e, which also comes with an Athlon 2650e microprocessor. This compact PC features a GeForce 8200 integrated graphics and 2GB of DDR2 memory. For storage, it includes a 320GB hard disk drive and an 18x DVD burner. The EL1210-01e also features a card reader, but it comes pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. The price for this eMachines system has been set at $349.

The company said that the first two EL series desktops are already available in stores. The EL1200-05w can be found at Wal-Mart, while the EL1210-01e is available for purchase at Best Buy.
