While Acer is probably thinking of new ways of improving its range of Aspire One netbooks, which have recorded an impressive market success, one of the company's subsidiaries, eMachines, is trying to stir things a bit in the world of portable systems.

The company has just introduced a new, fully functional notebook that comes with a price tag that can easily compete with all those Atom-powered netbooks on the market. The eMD620-5777 comes at a time when the worldwide economy isn't at its best, and tries to present computer users with an affordable, yet capable portable computer system.

“The new eMachines notebook is a great way for customers to get everything they need in a notebook at a really exceptional price - something that's welcome in today's challenging financial climate,” said Ray Sawall, senior product manager for Acer. “The new eMachines eMD620-5777 notebook is ideal for students, families, small business professionals and anyone on a budget who wants to enjoy the benefits of mobile computing. Plus, the new eMachines eMD620-5777 notebook gives families an affordable way to get an additional PC in their home, without having to set aside a dedicated space for it.”

Just to help you understand where this notebook fits in the portable systems market, we have to mention that eMachines says it is priced at $429.99. Now, for this amount, you would get, from other systems vendors, an Intel Atom-powered netbook that probably had an 8.9-inch or a 10-inch display. However, the eMD620-5777 will present you with a 14.1-inch, widescreen display, an Athlon 2650e CPU, running at 1.6GHz (yes, apparently this is the best frequency for a low-cost notebook), 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, the ATI Radeon X1200 graphics chipset, 802.11 b/g wireless connectivity, SuperMulti DVD-R/RW drive, all the connectivity ports you will probably need, and a curved keyboard.

The system is expected to arrive at BestBuy on November 1, and will come equipped with a preloaded Windows Vista Home Basic operating system.
