Bitdefender researchers came across a Facebook scam that promises 10,000 eBay gift cards worth $200 (140 EUR) for users who complete a few “easy steps.”

Unlike other schemes, where a simple Like and a Share are enough, in this situation the crooks request much more than that. They urge the unsuspecting victim to join the page, invite 50 friends, and share the phony offer.

Once the process is complete, a fake app page appears, advertising a “Who is stalking you” application.

If installed, the WhosStalking app requests permission to make Facebook posts on the users' behalf and access their date and time settings, giving the cybercrooks the opportunity to successfully promote their malicious campaigns.

Users are advised to analyze gift card offers before rushing to Like and Share them. In this instance, if the claims were true, eBay would have to give away $2 million (1.4 million EUR), which is an unlikely scenario.
