DVDStyler developer Alex Thüring is preparing for the launch of the 3.0 major release of his open-source and cross-platform DVD authoring software, DVDStyler.

The first Release Candidate build of DVDStyler 3.0 is finally here, available for anyone willing to take the upcoming software release for a test drive. It packs various new features and improvements, such as clipping protection support to the audio normalization feature and a "-alternate_scan" flag to the interlaced encoding component to let users use an alternative scanning method.

Among other features that have landed in today's DVDStyler 3.0 Release Candidate build, we can mention two new menu templates, namely "MothersDay" and "Heart," which users can add to their DVDs, as well as the ability to animate color object and numeric attributes when authoring a DVD. So yes, animations support is coming to DVDStyler 3.0.

FFmpeg 3.0 support, MPC-HC support, lots of new options

The above are only the features that have landed in DVDStyler 3.0 Release Candidate version, but there are many cool new ones coming to the major update, such as support for the FFMpeg 3.0 open-source and cross-platform multimedia framework and support for Media Player Classic Home Cinema (MPC-HC) media player.

There will also be new options, allowing users to keep the aspect ration for an image in a frame, add a chapter at the end of a title, as well as to downmix an audio channel to stereo. DVDStyler 3.0 promises initial support for the VBR (Variable Bitrate) plugin created by Manolito, and validation of menu cell actions.

Last but not least, users who find DVDStyler the perfect tool for authoring DVD-Video discs will discover that it is now possible to specify multiple values for animations, as well as to force the subtitle streams to be displayed on the video. This, unfortunately, won't be supported by the popular VLC Media Player software.

Of course, there will be numerous other small improvements to existing components, along with the regular bug fixes for better stability and reliability of the software. The final release of DVDStyler 3.0 should be available in the coming weeks, but until then, you can download the RC1 build right now via our website for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
