Dropbox is introducing several new features to make collaborating on various projects easier. The Dropbox Smart Sync is now available for everyone to use, and so is Dropbox Paper, which is now out of beta.

According to a company blog post, Dropbox admits to lagging behind in finding ways to help people collaborate with each other. Therefore, Smart Sync is now a feature that is available for users, allowing them to see all their files and folders right from their desktop, regardless if they are stored in the cloud or synced locally.

What does this mean and how does it work? Well, first of all, you won’t need to open your web browser and log into your account to view those files that you shared to Dropbox anymore. Instead, you’ll be able to just open your Dropbox folder on your computer, whether that’s via Windows File Explorer or MacOS Finder, and browse through them all. If you want to download anything to your hard drive, all you need to do is double-click the file.

Basically, with this new feature, you’ll be able to treat any file stored in the Cloud like you would any other normal file on your computer.

“Smart Sync also provides the controls admins need to manage their deployments more effectively. Admins can decide whether new content on managed devices starts out cloud-only or synced. And since new files are cloud-only by default, admins won’t overload hard drives when they add members to their account or team folders,” Dropbox adds.

Hello, Dropbox Paper

Another feature introduced by Dropbox has been around for a while, in beta testing. Now, the collaborative word processor is out of beta and available in 21 languages on the web. Each doc and folder created in Paper is automatically stored in Dropbox, so you’ll be able to see them among your files. The files you create with Paper will not count towards the Dropbox storage quota, which makes this tool even more useful. This may be subject to change in the future, but for now, you can enjoy this as it is.
