While not a GNU/Linux operating system, DragonFly BSD remains one of the most appreciated BSD distributions, and it looks like its maintainers are always keeping it up to date.

DragonFly BSD 4.4 was a major release announced two months ago, in the first week of December 2015, and it brought some attractive features for all fans of the FreeBSD operating system, on which DragonFly BSD is based. And now, the second maintenance build is available to keep the BSD-based OS stable and reliable at all times.

Looking at the release notes, which we have attached at the end of the article for reference, DragonFly BSD 4.4.2 adds a total of 27 changes, which include bugfixes for most of the issues reported by users since the previous maintenance build, as well as various updated packages and improvements.

"DragonFly 4.4.2, a bugfix release to 4.4.1, is out. This was mostly prompted by the recent OpenSSL update, but other little fixes have made it in, too. It’s available for download and is probably available at your nearest mirror by now, if you want an image," reads today's announcement.

What's new in DragonFly BSD 4.4.2

Release highlights of DragonFly BSD 4.4.2 include updated rtsold in etc/rc.d, rate control setup code improvements, better usage of the IEEE80211_ADDR_COPY() function, reduced lwp_signotify() latency in the kernel, removal of the debugging kprintf from HAMMER, and kernel quirks for the xHCI USB support.

Additionally, OpenSSL 1.0.1r is now included and there are some local adjustments for it, kern.dumpdev sysctl was repaired and it should work as expected now, an obsolete timezone was added to 'make upgrade,' and the DMACR settings were fixed, along with the inet6 address deletion.

There are, of course, many other small improvements in DragonFly BSD 4.4.2, and we strongly recommend that you check out the attached changelog for all the juicy details. In the meantime, you can download the DragonFly BSD 4.4.2 ISO image right now via Softpedia or upgrade your installation if you're running DragonFly BSD 4.4.1.
