The new game will land in just a couple of months

id Software promises that the new idTech 6 engine used in the new Doom game will be able to offer 1080p at 60fps, on all platforms.

Bethesda and id Software have been very quiet about the development cycle of Doom, and they only revealed the game when it was almost ready. Sure, they promised users that they were going to play the Alpha a long time ago, but they had the game almost ready. It was a total surprise when we found out that it was going to be released in just a few months.

This only means that id Software has been working on this for a very long time, and most likely they started after Rage. That particular game was using the idTech 5 engine, but Doom is using idTech 6, and we can all see that it’s a major step forward.

60fps on all platforms

It seems that both Bethesda and id Software are confident enough about their game that they are openly saying that Doom will run at 60fps on 1080p resolutions. They don’t say they are trying, or that they still have work to do. No, this is how it’s going to be.

“We want players to wonder how DOOM and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second. Our goal is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps,” says Lead Project Programmer Billy Khan.

The developer is also saying that artist and designers are having a much easier time when working with this new engine, as it gives them the tools to make the world feel alive.

The new Doom from id Software is expected to arrive on April 5, for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It remains to be seen if the developer’s claims will be backed up by reality.
