Video game developer id Software and publisher Bethesda are announcing that the multiplayer side of the coming Doom will include a unique take on King of the Hill called Warpath, which features a capture point that is constantly moving across the map using a preset path, challenging the player to constantly adapt their tactics in order to reach it.

At the same time, the mode will feature a special demon run that is moving in the exact opposite direction, introducing a dilemma for players who will need to decide if they want to become a powerful creature or if they are more interested in securing and then defending the control point that will bring them victory.

id Software says that it wants to make sure that Warpath is as fun and fast as the single player of Doom and that gamers are never tempted to camp or snipe because that will mean they are no longer actively pursuing the goals.

The multiplayer component of the new first-person shooter will also feature unique Hack Modules, disposable items that players earn as they play and can then deploy to gain a temporary advantage.

So far the development team include: Supply Timer, which shows respawns for pickups, Retribution, showing location and health for the player who recently killed the user, Scout, showing locations for all enemies for a short time, Vital Signs, which displays health bars, and Power Seeker, offering info on power-up locations.

Marty Stratton, a developer, working on Doom, is quoted as saying that, "Think of Hack Modules as an emphasized awareness of your surroundings that may, if you utilize it well, make you more effective. Good players ‘see’ these things inherently. But none of these affect the game’s balance by changing how powerful your gun is or anything like that."

Doom aims to offer an old-school take on the first-person shooter

The game will take the core ideas of the series, including powerful demonic enemies and fast combat, and will bring them to a new generation of hardware and a new audience.

The single-player campaign is set to take more than 13 hours and will feature a wide array of powerful weapons and complex levels, with the focus on offering challenging moments and big boss fights with plenty of over-the-top moments.

The game is not using a cover system or a health regeneration feature and will encourage players to keep moving forward by giving them more health as long as they constantly take out enemies.

When it comes to multiplayer, main developer id Software and Certain Affinity are offering classic deathmatch as well as domination, clan arena, freeze tag and more.

Doom is coming to the Xbox One from Microsoft, the PC and the PlayStation 4 from Sony on May 13 all over the world.

On both new home console, the game will run at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second, and id Software promises that it will look much better than previous installments because of the id Tech 6 engine.
