And now making a sandwich will never be the same again

Brace yourselves the next time you decide to grab a quick bite and open a tub of butter to make yourself a sandwich as you might come face to face with none other than Donald Trump.

No, really, this is not a sci-fi scenario. It actually happened to a woman in Missouri by the name of Jan Castellano who, when opening a new package of butter spread, found the presidential candidate staring back at her.

The miraculous appearance shook her to the core

Donald Trump isn't exactly media-shy. Even so, Jan Castellano was nothing if not surprised to learn that, apart from proper TV shows, he quite enjoys miraculously popping up in people's Earth Origins Organic Spread too.

“Only because I'm pretty tired of this man already... now he's showing up in my butter.... when I opened the new package, removed the plastic... poof... the Donald,” Jan Castellano commented on the bizarre occurrence, as cited by Mirror.

Truth be told, the face that appeared in this woman's butter sort of resembles the presidential candidate / real estate developer / television personality / author / politician (now that's an impressive career), but not all that much.

Scroll down to have a look at it yourselves. If you're thinking it more likely resembles a slightly overweight ghost or maybe the Michelin Man, that's because it does.

The human brain works in mysterious ways

The reason some people cannot help but see familiar faces in butter or other places where there isn't anything worthwhile to see is because the human brain is hard-wired to search for patterns in the world that surrounds us.

Researchers call this psychological phenomenon pareidolia and stress that, contrary to what some might assume, it is perfectly normal and not a sign of, well, insanity.

“Most people think you have to be mentally abnormal to see these types of images, so individuals reporting this phenomenon are often ridiculed,” explains University of Toronto researcher Kang Lee.

“But our findings suggest that it's common for people to see non-existent features because human brains are uniquely wired to recognize faces, so that even when there's only a slight suggestion of facial features the brain automatically interprets it as a face,” he adds.
