Super Mario Run for iOS was announced during the launch of Apple’s iPhone 7 and the mobile game was officially made available in the App Store a few days ago. Unfortunately, Android users will have to wait until next year to install the game from the Play Store.

When it comes to highly anticipated games or apps, Android users have the option to get their hands on an unofficial APK and check out the content that’s not yet officially available. Some APKs for various games and apps are actually versions released by the creators or trustworthy developers.

However, there are some cases in which installing an APK on your Android smartphone doesn’t go as well as you’d wished. Green Bot has recently reported that the APK for Super Mario Run is most likely malware.

Sideloading Super Mario Run could cause your phone to be hijacked

There are many links for fake versions of the game on various websites and message boards, but it’s best to stay away. In the worst case scenario, you could infect your phone with ransomware and malware. Sideloading the app on your phone could result in loss of personal data or even hijack. This is precisely the reason Nintendo chose the iOS platform for the launch of its Super Mario Run game.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the game stated that “The security element is one of the reasons that we decided to go with iPhone and iOS first. … We’re launching in 150 countries and each of those countries has different network environments and things like that. So, it was important for us to be able to have it secure for all users.”

The iOS version is partially free, you will need to pay about $9.99 in the US, if you wish to unlock the full game. Super Mario Run will be officially made available for Android in 2017, and while you wait, you can check out our APK section with loads of free and safe games.
