Users still having problems with Windows 10 drivers

Back in July, when Microsoft started pushing the Windows 10 upgrade to users, the company explained that some could have to wait a little bit longer for the new OS because of the compatibility issues that might exist on their PCs, including here old driver software that could prevent certain hardware from working correctly.

Eventually, Windows 10 has become available for the majority of Windows 7 and 8.1 users, who can get it free of charge, but compatibility issues still exist. And when it comes to drivers, there is a huge problem.

First and foremost, it’s the number of issues that faulty drivers could cause on your PC.

Judging from the amount of complaints posted in the Windows 10 Feedback app, there are plenty of users who are getting BSODs all of a sudden because of buggy graphics or any other drivers. Microsoft has specifically worked with some companies, including NVIDIA, to develop 100 percent compatible drivers for Windows 10, but despite all these efforts, some are still having a hard time using their PCs.

No sound, no advanced settings

On one of our PCs here at Softpedia, for example, the Creative audio card cannot be installed, hence no sound on this computer. What’s odd is that, when running Windows 10 preview builds, the audio card was working correctly, but after installing the November Update and opting out of the insider program, sound is no longer available.

The drivers that Windows Update tries to download and install aren’t compatible with Windows 10, and others are not available for the time being. We’ve attempted to extract the working drivers from a preview build where everything was working correctly and use them on the stable install with no success.

At the same time, there are plenty of devices that still don’t have Windows 10 compatible drivers. Sony VAIO devices, for examples, only receive the generic drivers, so more advanced features that would allow users to control battery settings or keyboard lightning are not available. Sony previously promised to release the drivers in October, then it pushed the deadline to November, and yet we’re in December and drivers are only available for a handful of devices.

All in all, Windows 10 does seem to have a driver issue, and with Microsoft planning to make the new OS a recommended update starting early 2016, this is becoming a huge problem. We’re pretty sure that some users aren’t having any problems with Windows 10 drivers, but if you do, leave us a comment in the comment box below.
