Two weeks ago, we discussed here the upcoming features of the Docker 1.13.0 open-source and cross-platform application container engine as part of the new version's first Release Candidate build.

And now, Developer Victor Vieux announced the availability of the second RC version for the Docker 1.13.0 release, which appears to bring lots of improvements and bug fixes. Notable changes include support for labels on volumes, the ability to filter volumes by label, along with the ability to purge data from a deleted volume using the "--force" parameter in the "docker volume rm" command.

Swarm Mode support lands for Windows platforms, local NFS (Network File System) volumes can now resolve hostnames, SELinux labeling of volumes that are being shared in a container was fixed, Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) is no longer a supported platform, the Remote API was updated to version 1.25, and the plugins were moved out of experimental.

Fedora 25 and Ubuntu 16.10 are supported platforms in Docker 1.13.0

Now that DEB and RPM builders are available for the Ubuntu 16.10 and Fedora 25 operating systems, Docker 1.13.0 Release Candidate 2 also introduces support for building docker DEBs on Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) on PPC64LE (PowerPC 64-bit Little Endian) architectures. Shell completions to TGZ and support for using the China mirror in the install script also landed.

Docker 1.13.0 should be released by the end of the year, and it promises numerous other exciting new features, among which we can mention support for compressing build context when building an image, and support for specifying images that are used as a cache source on build.
