Digital photo management application for KDE and Linux digiKam, which includes an image editor for photo corrections and manipulation, is now at version 4.8.0 and is ready for download.

digiKam is actually a collection of very powerful tools that can be used for a variety of tasks related to image editing. It comes with a ton of features and it's usually seen in action in KDE environments, but it can be used in other kinds of desktops as well. The application can be either used as a photo library, simple editing app, or even as a viewer. The large number of plugins ensure that one user will have a hard time going through all the features.

The developers provide numerous updates through the course of one development cycle and most of them are just for maintenance purposes. The same is true for the 4.8.0 version. It's not a big update, but it does come with some interesting fixes for various components.

digiKam 4.8.0 is a maintenance update

Unless you are using something like Arch Linux or any other derivative, it's likely that it will take some time until it arrives in your repository. It's a complex piece of software and it has a lot of dependencies, so you should only compile it if you know what you are doing.

The digiKam Team is proud to announce the release of digiKam Software Collection 4.8.0. This release includes a new sets of bug fixes from Maik Qualmann who maintains KDE4 version while KF5 port is under progress.

The developers also said that some of the BQM tools have been improved, the Image Quality Sorter now applies labels, the Tags from the Windows Photo Gallery are no longer ignored, and digiKam no longer crashes when it creates a panorama.

The complete changelog for digiKam can be found on the official website. You can download digiKam 4.3.0 right now from Softpedia, but please keep in mind that these are just the sources.
