No woman is safe from the “bump watch,” i.e. that thing that the media and celebrity pundits do where they analyze photos of female celebrities to cry “pregnancy!” whenever they think they can spot a baby bump. Diana Ross found that the hard way just some hours ago.

The legendary singer was spotted running errands in Los Angeles earlier this week, and paparazzi photos snapped on the occasion eventually found their way online on social media. All it took for the pregnancy rumors to swirl was one such photo.

By the way, Diana Ross turned 71 last March, and while there are records of older women conceiving and even carrying a healthy pregnancy to term, chances that she’s one of them are slim to none.

Of course, that didn’t matter for many users on Twitter, for whom the first photo available below, in the Instagram shot, was enough “confirmation” that Ross was, indeed, with child.

Many of said users expressed surprise and shock, while others were quick to add how silly it was to believe the pregnancy rumor, given the singer’s age. The bottom line is that the conversation on the topic continued for a long time, proving once more that it takes very little to get people’s attention on social media.

Also, Twitter has exactly zero chill.

In case there were still doubts, no, singer Diana Ross is not with child. A rep for the star took care to shut down the rumor in a statement to Gossip Cop, the celebrity online publication that’s made it its mission to address this kind of rumors and set the record straight on them.

“A source close to the singer who laughed off the pregnancy rumors before assuring us that the speculation is simply ‘not true’,” the e-zine writes.

So Diana won’t be adding to the 5 children she has from 2 marriages. When she’s not unwillingly sparking silly rumors, she’s preparing for a second stint in her Las Vegas residency, The Essential Diana Ross: Some Memories Never Fade. The shows start in November, at The Venetian hotel.
