The OS will still receive updates until April 2019

On July 12, 2015, the developers of the nOS Linux kernel-based operating system announced that they would no longer be involved in the development process of the rolling-release distribution.

The sad announcement was posted on the distribution's website, right on the front page, by Isaac Mercer, the project's leader. According to the message, the current release of the distribution will still receive updates from upstream package manufacturers until April 2019, but the monthly ISOs and updates for nOS specific apps won't be released anymore.

"Development of nOS has stopped, existing versions will continue to work and receive updates from the package manufacturers until April 2019. The only things that will no longer be issued are updates for nOS specific software and the monthly image releases (they haven't been going for a while anyway). Thanks for coming along with me for the journey," reads the announcement.

For those of you who are not in the loop, nOS was a rolling-release Linux distribution in the style of Arch Linux, with new ISO images being released at the beginning of each month for those who want to deploy the OS on new computers or reinstall it. The current version is nOS 2.0, dubbed Infinity.

Users are urged to move to a similar operating system

The announcement mentions the fact that the nOS developer, Isaac Mercer, will be involved in different projects from now on, such as SafeDriver, an Android app that promises to keep drivers safe on New Zealand roads, and he wants you to take part in them.

If you are using the nOS Linux distribution, we strongly recommend moving to a similar operating system that offers greater level of support from their developers, such as Arch Linux.
