Creating for the platform is costlier than it should be

The new version of the PlayStation 4 is not yet officially announced by Sony, but it seems that video game developers who are aiming to work with the company in the future are not too happy with its existence and the requirements that the company is placing on them.

The information comes from the Twitter account of Colin Moriarty, who works on Kinda Funny at the moment and quotes trusted sources inside the gaming industry.

He claims that there are extra costs associated with the development of video games for the new version of the PlayStation 4, which has been known as the 4K but apparently has the NEO codename inside Sony, and that they also do not want to plan for two versions of their title.

The information seems to confirm the fact that all game makers will have to create two separate versions of their titles. Base is designed to run on the currently available version of the platform and needs to be full features while NEO will be offered only on the new hardware and can have improved performance and resolution, although there's no need to support 4K or any other visual standard.

Developers will need to make sure that both run well, which adds to the costs associated with development, but Sony will probably step in and support those who are ready to deliver content for its new device.

The PlayStation 4 NEO will probably arrive before the end of the year

A recent leak associated with the new console shows that Sony is planning to deliver improvements when it comes to the CPU, the GPU, and the memory, which should improve the overall performance of the device.

It's unclear if the initial rumors about 4K support for the new PlayStation 4 are correct or if only limited support for the standard will be offered at launch.

There are some hints that the release date for the coming console is at some point during October, the month when Sony is also aiming to deliver its PlayStation VR virtual reality platform.

Presumably, the company is holding off on an official announcement despite the rumors because it wants to show off its new hardware to as many people as possible during the coming E3 2016 event in June.

The new PlayStation 4 NEO will have to compete with two other rumored devices, the Xbox One Slim that will be offered by Microsoft and the much talked-about Nintendo NX.
