The development team at Bungie says that it plans to take down Destiny for maintenance starting on Thursday, September 3, at 8 AM Pacific Daylight Time, which is the equivalent of 3 PM universal time, in order to tweak some core elements of the game.

The official game page suggests that the period will last for no less than 6 hours, which is relatively high for the game, especially given that the studio has only announced that it would take down the shooter one day before the actual event.

Bungie says that all Destiny players who have signed in before the maintenance period will get a clear notice via the in-game messaging system and those who are online will be able to resume all gameplay once the login functionality and service are restored.

The companion application for the social shooter will also be affected by the downtime.

Bungie is not saying what changes it plans to deliver to Destiny during the maintenance period, and gamers are currently speculating whether an actual patch will be deployed for the title or not.

The studio has not offered any clear details about the downtime, but it will likely be related to an infrastructure update that is linked to the coming The Taken King expansion.

Destiny is adding a range of new activities

Bungie says that it has listened to the feedback coming from the community during the first year of activity and is seeking to improve a range of features.

With The Taken King, gamers will have to face a powerful new threat, Oryx, who is coming to the solar system in order to avenge the death of his son Crota.

The studio says that it wants to add a range of activities that will appeal to veteran Destiny gamers, offering new ways to improve the Guardians and gain cool new equipment.

The Taken King expansion will be offered on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and older home consoles on September 15.

A downtime period will take place on September 8, when the social shooter will receive the big 2.0 update, which will tackle a series of core mechanics and will introduce features for the second year of the title's life.
