The team at Bungie in charge of the day-to-day running of Destiny is acknowledging that a number of players are having trouble signing into Destiny, regardless of the platform they are playing the social shooter on, and says that it is working to find the cause and solve the problem as quickly as possible.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of the studio and does not offer any details on the possible cause or on when full access to the title is expected to be restored.

It's unclear whether the Destiny trouble is related to the recently extended maintenance period, which took the entire experience down for about six hours.

Since then Bungie has also performed maintenance on the official forums and the companion app.

There are no details on any changes that were made during the downtime, but the studio is probably trying to make the infrastructure that supports the game ready for the big content releases, which are expected to start coming in less than one week.

On September 8, Destiny will receive the big 2.0 update, which is designed to bring the title into its second year of life.

The full patch notes have not yet been revealed, but Bungie says that a range of core features will be tweaked, based on feedback coming from the player community, and that weapon balancing will be one of the main focuses.

Destiny is also getting access to the new The Taken King expansion

Most of the content associated with it will be offered on September 15 on the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One and older consoles.

Gamers will be able to explore a new area, the dreadnought that Oryx is using to come to the solar system, which is different from the already offered planets.

There are also three new subclasses to play as, each of them with a solid set of mechanics, and more weapons and items to equip Guardians with.

The Taken King is also introducing changes to the Crucible experience, which can be previewed by the entire player base between September 8 and 14.

The King's Fall raid associated with the expansion, which will feature Oryx as the boss and a number of new enemies, is scheduled to launch on September 18, giving gamers three days to get acquainted with the new mechanics and to prepare for the toughest battle they have ever faced in Destiny.

UPDATE: Bungie says the problems have been solved but some gamers are still having trouble getting in.
