Bungie has elaborated on the recent bans handed out to Destiny players who manipulated their network conditions (aka lag switching), advising fans to play fair and report any suspicious behavior in the online experience, so that its own security team can take the necessary actions and ensure a level playing field.

Destiny has provided a pretty intense multiplayer experience ever since its debut in September of last year, and developer Bungie has ensured not only that players encounter as few issues as possible, through updates and patches, but also that they're not aggravated with cheaters. The latter problem requires plenty of different measures from Bungie and the latest wave of bans started yesterday.

Fans should play fair and stay away from exploits

After confirming the bans, which were issued to players who manipulated their network conditions, or as it's most commonly known "lag switching," Bungie explains on its blog that players shouldn't try to gain an advantage using any unfair method.

"We’re committed to protecting Destiny against cheaters. Enjoy your game. Just play it fair. That’s all we ask. Short of your own commitment to honor, we’ll taken action ourselves. It’s not a thing we enjoy doing – and certainly something we’ll never quantify or describe in agonizing detail. The damned shall remain anonymous – their nefarious actions a mystery," the studio explains.

In case they spot others who might not be playing fair, users should use the game's report methods to signal this suspicious behavior. Using these complains, as well as its own internal data, Bungie is always ready to punish those who are, in fact, cheating or using exploits.

Considering Bungie is gearing up for the debut of Destiny's biggest expansion yet, The Taken King, the studio is going to increase its security measures, so that those that buy the add-on won't have their fun interrupted by cheaters and other nefarious people.
