Dell has just launched a refresh of its XPS 13 series of Windows 10 laptops, with significant hardware upgrades and a new color option that brings it in line with many other models introduced this year by various manufacturers.

First and foremost, the hardware. The new XPS 13 series will be available with two different display configurations, just like the existing generation.

You can choose between a 13.3-inch FHD non-touch display and a 4K configuration that’s also featuring touch support, both sporting Dell’s InfinityEdge. According to the press release issued today, Dell was particularly focused on making the laptop more portable, so its weight is now starting at 2.7 lbs (1.2 kg), while the slimmest version measures just 9 mm.

In case you’re wondering how come they are so light, Dell says it turned to machined aluminum and carbon fiber to make the laptops durable, and it used Gorilla Glass to protect the screen.

Kaby Lake CPUs

The new models come with Intel’s new-generation Kaby Lake CPUs, i5 and i7, which are paired with 8GB of RAM memory in the default configuration, but it can be boosted up to 16 GB. In terms of storage, you can go up to 1 TB of SSD. The graphics card is Intel’s HD Graphics 650, which provides mixed performance, so maybe some upgrades here would come in handy.

As far as the battery is concerned, here’s something that’ll certainly take you by surprise. Dell says that the FHD version can provide up to 22 hours of battery life, but this is clearly impossible, especially if you use it for watching videos or playing games. The 4K display version offers an autonomy of 13 hours.

The typical laptop features are also available, and these include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB 3.0 ports. A Rose Gold version is also available, and this is expected to be the best-selling version of the new lineup, but as you can see for yourselves in the gallery here, it’s more gold than rose.

Pricing will begin at $799 in the United States for the entry-level version and $1,499 for the Rose Gold configuration. Sales will begin on October 4.
