Report claims Samsung will replace the headphone jack with USB Type-C as an act of courage (to copy Apple)

One of the most controversial moments in tech this year was the removal of the headphone jack on Apple’s iPhone 7 and pretty much everyone made fun of the company, especially after Cupertino executives described this as an act of courage.

As one of its key competitors, Samsung was one of the first to mock Apple for making it impossible to listen to music with wired headphones and to charge the iPhone at the same time after the removal of the 3.5mm audio port, promising to keep this super-popular feature alive on its next models.

Now guess what Samsung is planning to do.

According to a report from SamMobile, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 will come without a headphone jack, not because Apple did it, but because the South Korean firm thinks this is the right thing to do. Why exactly is yet to be determined, but one thing is sure: the S8 won’t allow owners to use their 3.5mm headphones anymore and adapters will be needed.

It turns out that Samsung will bet big on the USB Type-C port, so the company’s next models will use this connector not only for charging and data transfers but also for audio. Most likely, an adapter letting you use your traditional headphones with the S8 will still be offered, just like Apple does on the iPhone 7.

Fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen

And nope, that’s not all. There’s another rumor swirling around the web which claims that Samsung is also working on a super-revolutionary feature that nobody ever planned to bring on a phone: a fingerprint sensor integrated into the display.

For starters, Apple is already working on a similar technology for the next iPhone, so Samsung most likely is in a hurry to do it before its Cupertino rival - hopefully, it won’t be as eager to overshadow Apple as it was with the Note 7 because we know how it all ended up for the South Korean firm.

For what it’s worth, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is scheduled to see daylight next February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, so we should get a glimpse into Apple’s next mobile vision in approximately two months. In the meantime, the video below truly shows the power of innovation in mobile these days.
