The Debian Project announced over the weekend the release of the fourth maintenance update to the stable Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" operating system series.

Debian GNU/Linux 9.4 "Stretch" comes three months after the 9.3 point release and brings more than 70 security fixes and 89 miscellaneous bugfixes for various core components or other packages available in the main software repositories of the Linux-based operating system. However, the Debian Project warns that this point release doesn't represent a new version of Debian Stretch.

"This point release mainly adds corrections for security issues, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories have already been published separately and are referenced where available. Please note that the point release does not constitute a new version of Debian 9 but only updates some of the packages included," reads the release announcement.

Debian GNU/Linux 9.4 "Stretch" Live and Installation ISOs out now

The Debian GNU/Linux 9.4 point release is here mainly for those who want to install the latest Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" operating system on their personal computers, either for desktop or server purposes. This means that you won't have to download the new ISO images if you already have Debian Stretch installed on your PC, just make sure all the packages are up-to-date.

For that, all you have to do is to run the "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" command in a terminal emulator or use the default graphical package manager of your favorite desktop environment to install all the latest updates and security patches. As for new installations, you can download the Debian GNU/Linux 9.4 Live and installation-only ISOs right now through our web portal.

Supported architectures for the installation images include 64-bit, 32-bit, ARM64 (AArch64), Armel, ARMhf, MIPS, MIPS64el, MIPSel, PPC64el, and s390x. On the other hand, the live ISO images are available with the LXDE, MATE, Cinnamon, Xfce, GNOME, and KDE desktop environment pre-installed, and support only 64-bit and 32-bit systems.
