14 DAY TRIAL // Shortly after introducing the second point release of the Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" operating system, the Debian Project had the great pleasure of informing its users about the immediate availability for download of a new maintenance release for their stable, long-term supported Debian GNU/Linux 7 OS.
Debian GNU/Linux 7.9 is the ninth point release in the Debian GNU/Linux 7 "Wheezy" series and includes a wide range of under-the-hood improvements, code cleanups, security patches, a new kernel version, as well as many bugfixes, all in order to keep the long-term release of Debian GNU/Linux 7 reliable and stable for a longer period of time.
To see what exactly has been improved, removed, or patched in the Debian GNU/Linux 7.9 operating system, we recommend reading the official release note. In summary, we can tell you that it updates no less than 60 packages, implements 184 security patches for various core components and applications, and removes three packages.
"The Debian project is pleased to announce the ninth update of its old stable distribution Debian 7 (codename 'wheezy'). This update mainly adds corrections for security problems to the old stable release, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories were published separately and are referenced where applicable," reads the announcement.
All Debian GNU/Linux 7 users must upgrade as soon as possible
Existing Debian GNU/Linux 7 "Wheezy" users are urged to update their systems as soon as possible. The 7.9 maintenance release is already available in the main software repositories of the distribution, so all you have to do is run the "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" commands in a Terminal window. After the update, don't forget to reboot your computer for the updates to be applied correctly.
