The developer of the Debian-based Robolinux computer operating system announced the release of the sixth maintenance update to the Robolinux 8 LTS "Raptor" series of his GNU/Linux distribution.

Based on the recently released Debian GNU/Linux 8.6 "Jessie" operating system and powered by a kernel from the long-term supported Linux 3.16 series, Robolinux 8.6 LTS "Raptor" is now available for download as a drop-in replacement for the previous update, namely Robolinux 8.5 LTS, which made the OS's installer free for all users.

It is available in the usual flavors, with the Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce, and LXDE desktop environments, and includes more than 275 important security and software updates imported from upstream. The most popular applications included in Robolinux 8.6 LTS are Mozilla Firefox 49.0, Mozilla Thunderbird 45.3.0, and TOR Browser 6.0.5.

"This is another classic Robolinux upgrade entailing three months of hard work finding every way possible to improve the speed and functionality of all 8 Raptor versions," says the dev. "All Robolinux Raptor 8.6 versions are based on 100% rock solid current Debian 8 stable source code running the newest Debian 3.16 Linux kernel."

Stealth VMs let users run Microsoft Windows 10 and 7 virus-free

As you might know if you've tried Robolinux before, the GNU/Linux distribution offers users Stealth VMs that let them run the Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 10 operating systems virus-free. These virtual machines are based, of course, on Oracle's VirtualBox 5.0 virtualization solution.

You can download the Robolinux 8.6 LTS with the Cinnamon and MATE, as well as Xfce and LXDE editions, right now via our website, but keep in mind that Robolinux is targeting new Linux users and the Robolinux 8 "Raptor" LTS series is supported with software updates and security patches until the year 2020.
