Today, September 20, 2016, the Q4OS development team informs Softpedia about the immediate availability of an updated version of their work-in-progress Q4OS 2.0 "Scorpion" GNU/Linux operating system.

Q4OS 2.2.1 is out now, and it comes as a drop-in replacement for the previous development release, namely Q4OS 2.1.1, bringing all sort of updated components and new technologies based, of course, on the upstream Debian Testing repositories. These include Linux kernel 4.6, Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) 14.0.4, and GCC 6.

"This is a testing version of the Q4OS desktop, based on the recent Debian 9 Stretch release with the upgraded Linux kernel 4.6, GCC 6 and the Trinity 14.0.4 desktop environment," reads today's announcement. "Anybody is invited to try out the brand new version and report bugs and glitches."

Now it ships with the LXQt desktop environment as well

We all know that the Q4OS GNU/Linux distribution was always built around the Trinity Desktop Environment, but it looks like, by popular demand, the development team decided to include the modern, Qt-based LXQt desktop environment as well, and you can switch between the two from the login screen.

Therefore, if you want to relive the good old days and use the Trinity Desktop Environment, which promises to keep the spirit of the KDE 3.5 desktop alive, on your personal computer, or you want to help the Q4OS developers patch the remaining issues before the final release hits the streets, download the Q4OS 2.2.1 Live ISOs now.

However, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which means that it is not suitable for daily use on a production environment. As for the final launch of Q4OS 2, the development team informs us that it will see the light of day when Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" is officially released. Q4OS "Scorpion" is supported for five years!
