A day after announcing the release of GParted 0.28.1, which re-enabled the ability for users to resize or move primary disk partitions, Curtis Gedak is releasing today the GParted Live 0.28.1-1 distro.

As its name implies, Gparted Live is a live ISO image that allows anyone to use the powerful and open-source GParted partition editor without installing anything on their computers. The new release, GParted Live 0.28.1-1, is, of course, based on GParted 0.28.1 and includes updated components based on the Debian Sid repository as of February 18, 2017. Also included is partial read and write support for LUKS encrypted filesystems.

"This release includes partial read-write support for LUKS encrypted file systems. GParted can't create, open or close LUKS encryption volumes; however it can copy, resize and manipulate file systems inside open LUKS volumes and move closed LUKS volumes. (Resizing requires Linux kernel >= 3.6 and libparted >= 3.2 for online partition resizing)," explained Curtis Gedak in today's announcement.

libparted was patched to improve FAT file system operations

Under the hood, GParted Live 0.28.1-1 is powered by the Linux 4.9.6-3 kernel and includes various patches for the libparted library to fix various FAT file system operations, such as checking of FAT32 crashes and detection of resized FAT32 filesystems within the Microsoft Windows operating system. Of course, it also ships with the latest security patches to keep users safe at all times.

As GParted Live is built around the GParted partition editor, we recommend reading our previous reports on the GParted 0.28.0 and GParted 0.28.1 releases to learn about the new features implemented, which will be available to you if you download the new GParted Live 0.28.1-1 ISO image right now from our website, write it on a CD disc or USB stick, and use it on the PC where you want to manipulate disk drives.
