After informing us of the release of Exton|OS Light Build 161021, today, October 26, 2016, GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton sent an email to announce the availability of DebEX Barebone Build 161025.

The latest version of the DebEX Barebone GNU/Linux distribution, build 161025, is here, based on the soon-to-be-released Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" (Debian Testing) operating system and kernel 4.8.0-21-exton, a specially crafted Linux kernel package based on the latest stable Linux 4.8 kernel.

The distro is designed to be as lightweight as possible and ships with the Xfce 4.12.1 desktop environment by default. It includes up-to-date package versions from the upstream Debian Testing repositories as of October 25, 2016. Nvidia’s proprietary graphics driver 370.28 is present, along with the PulseAudio sound system.

Build your own Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" Live DVD

However, the biggest new feature of DebEX Barebone Build 161025 is the integration of the Refracta tools, which you can use to create your own installable Debian GNU/Linux 9 "Stretch" Live DVD, but only if you install the DebEX distribution on your personal computer. You'll be able to customize the new live system as you see fit.

But that's not all that's included in DebEX Barebone Build 161025, as users will also find popular open source apps like VirtualBox virtualization software, Midori web browser, SMPlayer video player, SMTube YouTube browser and player, as well as TOR Browser, which replaces Google Chrome. Please study the full list of installed packages.

"I have replaced Google Chrome with Tor Browser - it prevents somebody watching your Internet connection from learning what sites you visit, it prevents the sites you visit from learning your physical location, and it lets you access sites which are blocked," said Arne Exton in the release announcement.

Update: After some more testing, Arne Exton changed his statement that you can use Refracta tools only if you install DebEX on your PC, saying "You don’t even have to install DebEX to hard drive before you can use the Refracta tools. If you have plenty of RAM you can create a new (your own!) Debian 9 system while running DebEX from DVD or a USB stick."
